wellbeing

Wellbeing encompasses quality of life, as well as the ability of people and societies to contribute to the world in accordance with a sense of meaning and purpose. Focusing on wellbeing supports the tracking of the equitable distribution of resources, overall thriving, and sustainability. A society’s well-being can be observed by the extent to which they are resilient, build capacity for action, and are prepared to transcend challenges.

The Full Frame Initiative offers a framework for incorporating wellbeing into approaches for ending violence that outlines five domains of wellbeing: social connectedness, safety, stability, mastery, and meaningful access to relevant resources. When people have access to all domains, their wellbeing is nurtured. When they do not have access to all five, they must make tradeoffs in one area in order to increase access in another. Systems and services can foster individuals’ and communities’ wellbeing by reducing the number of tradeoffs people are forced to make.
